Tākina, Wellington’s new exhibition and convention centre, officially opened

It was a privilege to participate in the official opening celebrations for Tākina, Wellington’s new exhibition and convention centre. Our journey on this project started in early 2015, and over the past eight years, we have worked with an exceptional team of project partners to deliver this landmark building.

During construction, which intersected with the COVID-19 pandemic, 1,500 people were inducted on-site, with hundreds more working behind the scenes. The collective output of this massive team is a beautiful space that will bring people together to collaborate and that will nurture learning, entertainment and creativity.

The project was completed in February this year, adjusting for COVID, on time and on budget. This extraordinary achievement has only been possible because of the vision, teamwork, and dedication of everyone involved in making it happen.

We want to thank and congratulate all our project partners, particularly our mana whenua partners, Wellington City Council, Studio Pacific Architecture, Dunning Thornton Consultants, Beca and LT McGuinness Ltd., for their vision and determination in making Tākina a reality.
