Wellington’s new convention and exhibition centre

Willis Bond is proud to have partnered with the Wellington City Council to deliver Tākina - Wellington’s new the $180 million convention and exhibition centre.

Located opposite the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa in Cable Street, the sculptural 18,000sqm building has views of Wellington’s spectacular harbour and flexibility that allows for a wide variety of configurations, making it a truly multi-purpose venue.

Tākina is the first convention centre in New Zealand to achieve a 5 Green Star design accreditation and includes sustainable features and adaptable systems to emit 60-70% less carbon and use 60-70% less energy than similar buildings.

Large, flexible convention and exhibition spaces

Tākina comprises three large floors with the convention centre situated on the two upper levels and able to host events for up to 1,600 delegates.

The 1,280sqm ground floor exhibition space is New Zealand’s largest gallery and is designed to host national and international touring exhibitions.

Designed by Studio Pacific Architecture, Tākina was completed March 2023 and is scheduled to open in mid-2023.
