Tākina Wellington Convention & Exhibition Centre
Wellington’s new convention and exhibition centre
Willis Bond is proud to have partnered with the Wellington City Council to deliver Tākina - Wellington’s new convention and exhibition centre, which offers 18,000sqm of versatile space in the heart of the city.
Located opposite Te Papa Tongarewa, it is Aotearoa’s first convention centre to achieve a 5 Green Star NZ certification. As Wellington’s largest civic infrastructure investment in two decades, Tākina stands out for its striking architecture, strong iwi collaboration in its design narrative, and cutting-edge adaptability. Engineered for resilience with base-isolation technology and a structural diagrid, Tākina is built to perform, while sustainability features significantly reduce carbon emissions and energy use by up to 70%.
Large, flexible convention and exhibition spaces
Tākina comprises three large floors with the convention centre situated on the two upper levels and able to host events for up to 1,600 delegates.
The 1,280sqm ground floor exhibition space is New Zealand’s largest gallery and is designed to host national and international touring exhibitions.
Designed by Studio Pacific Architecture, and built by LT McGuinness, Tākina was completed March 2023 and is scheduled to open in mid-2023.
