Back to the bone - Architecture Now
Willis Bond’s project ‘The Hangar’ did not start with a written brief, but rather a series of conversations between Cheshire Architects and Willis Bond, which resulted in 12-18 months of sketches and ideas, which changed as the former seaplane hangar’s use changed.
The hangar now features an ‘heroic’ mechanically folding door which opens to reveal eateries around three sides, as well as a brewery. In order to balance out the space, the mezzanine floor area now operates as commercial and co-working office space run by Willis Bond & Co. This includes meeting rooms, co-share desking and commercial services, all contained behind beautiful glass paneling. The hangar, as it was originally, is clad and roofed with corrugated steel, which covers the skeleton of a building which previously stood there.
