100 Cuba Street, Wellington - final retail space now leasing
An exceptional, re-strengthened and refurbished heritage building, adapted for office and retail use
100 Cuba Street forms the second phase of Willis Bond’s Cuba Precinct project and was completed in October 2020. A landmark heritage site that once served as a department store, the building has been re-strengthened to 100+% National Building Standard and cleverly adapted into 6,000sqm of open-plan, modern office space and 1,000sqm of retail space.
The two expansive open-plan upper floors and part of the ground floor are fully leased to Greater Wellington Regional Council (GWRC) and showcase original heritage features including roof lights, matai timber flooring, and pressed tin ceilings. These are complemented with modern additions including a new roof and western façade with double-glazed windows for increased thermal performance.
Cuba Street-fronting retail spaces
In addition to the 6,000sqm of office space, the building now offers six prime ground floor retail tenancies which have been leased to major retailers that include: Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, Spark, Glassons, Dr Martens and Boardertown. The final retail tenancy is available for lease.
100 Cuba Street exemplifies Willis Bond’s approach to adaptation and reuse of heritage buildings. With careful consideration, this Wellington landmark has been restored to its former glory, with emphasis on reusing materials to create efficient, viable commercial spaces. Once an earthquake risk, the building now plays a major role in revitalising economic activity in the wider Cuba Street area.
Project partners include Athfield Architects, Dunning Thornton Consultants, CORA and LT McGuinness.
