A proposed multi-use campus to complement and enhance Wellington CBD’s economic growth and resilience.
The proposed campus is designed to meet growing demand within the Wellington region for flexible, resilient space outside the CBD that enables collaborative and project-based working.
The proposal is planned for the former AgResearch site in Wallaceville, a low-hazard location with strong road and public transport links and a long and proud history of research and innovation.
The large, flat site allows for very large, efficient floor plans in a master-planned campus of low-rise, resilient buildings. It would be possible to provide up to 70,000sqm of brand new, resilient space that would suit a wide range of uses including office and projects teams, technology hubs, data centres, specialist tech spaces and disaster recovery facilities.
Two heritage buildings on the site are proposed to be strengthened to create a central amenity hub for staff including facilities such as cafes, a fitness studio, childcare centre and centralised meeting rooms.
The site’s established park-like setting with mature elms, oaks and totaras also provides a natural environment difficult to achieve in the CBD and provides the opportunity for extra amenity such as running and cycling loops.
The proposed campus also benefits from being near existing facilities for IRD, New Zealand Defence Force, Panhead Brewing, ASB, the Ministry of Social Development and the proposed New Zealand Campus of Innovation and Sport.
